Nice to meet you!
Hello! I’m Kari. I’ve been a photographer for over 2 decades and have continued to learn and grow in my craft every year. I started out working in a chain studio where I learned how to quickly work with people and capture their best side in as little time as possible. When I branched out on my own in 2005, I decide to give my clients a more custom approach, planning out the session in advance and taking more time with each client to give them a specialized experience catered to them. I maintain this approach today, while those early “work fast” skills have continued to be helpful in working with small children with short attention spans.
In the early years I did just about everything (events, weddings, etc.) which was great for growing my skills and ability to adapt to any situation. I’ve since narrowed my focus to portraits, specifically senior, family, children and headshots along with the occasional team or club. I love working at a slower pace and only book one session per day (with the exception of basic headshots sessions), allowing me the time and energy to give my clients my best work.
In recent years, along with my youngest daughter, we’ve dived into the world of on camera acting, working in commercials and independent films, and most recently producing our own short films and are working on our first feature film.
My love for performing arts started back when I was in middle school. I joined the after school theater program, and as a shy kid, I was instantly connected with the stage and the outlet it provided for me to come out of my shell. In my early 20s I worked at a resort destination as an entertainer, putting on live evening shows as a singer and performing improv/audience participation sketches. I’d always wanted to get into film acting, but thought the only way to do this would be to move to Hollywood, and I wasn’t in a place to tackle that world. When I started my family I took a hiatus from performing, and focused my attention toward my family and my photography. When my youngest daughter expressed interest in acting, in looking for auditions for her, I discovered a local film community right here in Minnesota, and decided to give that film acting dream of mine another shot. Since then, I’ve been involved in multiple film projects, met so many great people and am loving every minute. You can see my growing IMDB page here!
My skills in photography and my acting knowledge has allowed me to really fine tune my headshots work. I know what commercial agents are looking for and need in order to market you, and also have learned a lot about what makes a great theatrical headshot for film and theater, one that will help you stand out among the crowd. I would love to share my talents with you and maybe we’ll see each other on set one day!
